Exmouth RNLI assist 11 people from river ferry aground in River Exe

Inshore lifeboat George Bearman launched at 10.35pm on 20 May to assist 10 passengers and skipper from a river taxi which ran aground at Bull Hill in the river Exe.

In light rain and in the dark, crew volunteers were on scene, off Starcross within 15 minutes.

Helm, Scott Ranft said:

‘We walked over to the taxi and transferred three or four of the passengers at a time to our D class lifeboat, making three trips in total to a local, larger rigid inflatable boat which could recover them all to Exmouth Marina safely. On our last trip, we transferred the skipper. The crew volunteers ensured the anchor was deployed so that the boat wouldn’t drift when it refloated on the rising tide.’
