Exmouth RNLI volunteers assist yachtsman taken ill on boat

Exmouth RNLI volunteers were launched on Friday 8 June when a man living on a boat up the river called for help after being taken ill. The team responded in the inshore lifeboat, transferring the sailor to shore for medical treatment.

The man, who it’s believed lives on his boat, contacted Brixham Coastguard asking for assistance. The D class inshore lifeboat was launched with volunteers Scott Ranft, Guy Manning and Andy Williams onboard. After a tricky launch into rough water and a strong wind, the three headed into the more settled river area and to the boat moored at Turf Locks in the entrance to the Exeter Canal.

The volunteers then transported the poorly man to a waiting land ambulance where he was handed into the care of paramedics.
