Inshore lifeboat George Bearman launched at 5.45pm on 6 April to reports of a mother and daughter walking a Boxer and a Collie, cut off by the tide between Sandy Bay and Orcombe Point.                                     

It took crew volunteers just five minutes to arrive on scene to find the casualties soaked to their skin in the rising tide, east of Orcombe Point. The ladies from Exeter had walked to Sandy Bay across the cliffs and down onto the beach to return to Exmouth, only to find themselves suddenly in difficulty.

Helm Andy Stott said:

‘When we arrived on scene, the mother was up to her waist in water and the dogs were cold. The wind direction and conditions meant they became wetter on the way back to the boathouse. The ladies were absolutely soaked through so we loaned them our woolly bear fleeces to wear home in the car. They were very grateful for our blankets, plastic sheets and a cup of tea!’
