Exmouth inshore lifeboat George Bearman was tasked twice on Sunday 31 January. At 6.15am, volunteers were tasked to carry out a shoreline search and at 2.21pm rescued two people in difficulty in the river Exe.

At 6,15am, Crew volunteers searched the coastline in the dark for an hour towards Sandy Bay. The trio were stood down by the coastguard when the missing person was found safe inland.

At 2.21pm, the station’s D class lifeboat was tasked to reports of a man and woman in difficulty in a tiny dinghy in the river Exe. Helm Guy Munnings described the scene:

‘We were tasked following reports of two people in difficulty near Turf Locks. They were rowing against the tide and wind and one of their plastic row locks had broken, making it difficult to steer. When we arrived on scene, the challenging conditions had blown them across to the other side of the river, near the Marine camp and so we attached a towline to the 3m tender and brought them back to Turf Locks. We gave them safety advice as they weren’t wearing lifejackets or carrying a VHF radio or distress flares.’
