Six On Saddles complete 32 miles for Exmouth RNLI

Volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew members from Exmouth, Max Champion, Stephen Satchell, Paul Fox, Lee Manning, Neil Cannon and Hedley Saunders completed a 32 mile cycle from Supacat in Dunkeswell to Exmouth RNLI lifeboat station on Saturday (25 January) to raise funds towards the new launch and recovery vehicle needed for the Exmouth’s new Shannon class lifeboat. The challenge, made even harder as the cyclists were wearing full all weather RNLI lifeboat kit, celebrated the charity’s SOS Day which is on Friday 31 January.

New Year brings a new start for Exmouth RNLI

Following the retirement of Coxswain Mechanic Tim Mock, two crew volunteers have successfully progressed into new roles at Exmouth RNLI.

Tim’s departure on Christmas Day created two positions available: a full-time Mechanic and a volunteer Coxswain. Since both roles require the highest level of experience in life-saving at sea, the positions were advertised widely within the Institution itself.

Exmouth RNLI Coxswain Mechanic retiring after 33 years’ service

Tim Mock, the Coxswain Mechanic of Exmouth lifeboat is retiring in February, after nearly 34 years of dedication. Christmas Day will be his last operational day for the charity that saves lives at sea.

Tim has always been due to retire on his 55th birthday, but with various time off in lieu, the end of his working term falls at Christmas. For the last few years, it has been tradition for the lifeboat station to have a presence at the town’s Christmas Day swim. This year as the last swimmer steps out of the sea and the lifeboats head back to the station, the keys to the boathouse and the Coxswain’s pager will be handed over after a long, dependable 33 years.

Long-service presentations for Exmouth RNLI volunteers

At a Christmas get-together for shop volunteers on 12 December, a number of presentations were made for dedicated long-service. Crew volunteers gave a talk on their recent visit to Berthon Build to view Exmouth RNLI’s new Shannon-class lifeboat in progress.

Exmouth Shop Manager, Margaret Eaglesham organised the annual get-together in order to thank shop volunteers for their continued hard work. Margaret also presented retiring Coxswain Mechanic, Tim Mock with a selection of items from the shop, including a useful tide table for 2014.

Book-signing success at Exmouth RNLI Coffee Morning

Best-selling author, Graham Hurley was invited to attend the annual Exmouth Lifeboat Fundraising Team coffee morning on Saturday 23 November. The charity’s volunteers raised a collective total of £763.45 within the two-hour event.

The event was held on a sunny and frosty morning with 120 people attending. Amongst the visitors was Deputy Mayor, Caz Sismore-Hunt who looks forward to supporting the life-saving charity more closely when she becomes Mayor next May.

This year, the Fundraising Team invited local best-selling author, Graham Hurley to sign copies of his latest novel, Touching Distance to help boost funds. Graham contributed a donation per book sold at the event. Speaking of the charity, he said;
