Christmas Day Swims

The annual Christmas Day Swims at Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton were very well attended as usual with, according to the Exmouth Journal, at least 200 brave people tackling the cool waters off Budleigh beach alone. The swim at Exmouth is reckoned to be the biggest in the country and many of the participants wore fancy dress and inapropriate headwear!. At least this year no one was running over the beach on ice and snow like last Christmas.

The Inshore lifeboat was in attendance but the proffesional services of the crew were not needed and at both locations the opportuity was taken by a small band of Guild Volunteers to collect for the Station.

At Exmouth they raised £513.54 and at Budleigh a further £232.58 with all the money going towards the new lifejackets fund for the Exmouth Crews.

Earlier in December a collection was held outside Tescos in Salterton Road which raised a further £520.54 towards the fund.

Many thanks must go to all those who gave up their time and braved the weather to collect for the RNLI  as well as the Crew who provided the safety cover on Christmas Day.

A very Happy New Year to all.
