The second call of the day came for the volunteer crew of Exmouth RNLI on Tuesday 28 July at 17:40hrs. The pagers sounded following a call from a concerned member of the public for a group of paddleboarders just west of the Exe Estuary.
The Exmouth RNLI volunteer shore crew swiftly launched the D-Class, inshore lifeboat, George Bearman II, with three float crew aboard to the reported location. Sea conditions were slight with a gentle onshore breeze.
Following an assessment by our lifeboat crew and the local coastguard team it was ascertained that the paddleboarders were safe and well and not in need of assistance. The Exmouth RNLI lifeboat and crew returned to the station to make the lifeboat ready for the next tasking.
This shout is classified as a false alarm with good intent. All search and rescue (S&R) agencies rely on the eyes and ears of the public to support them in their lifesaving activity. We would always encourage individuals to call 999 and ask for the coastguard if they, or anyone else, appears to be in difficulty by the coast. We will always be ready when the pager sounds.
