Exmouth RNLI assist broken down boat

Exmouth RNLI volunteers were on a training exercise on Saturday when they were tasked to a broken down boat off Cockwood.

At 8.11pm on Saturday 2nd September 2023 the crew of Exmouth RNLI inshore lifeboat D-805 George Bearman II were on exercise when they were tasked by H.M. Coastguard to three persons on board a vessel with engine failure off Cockwood.

The lifeboat crew were quickly on scene with the occupants of the casualty vessel able to give their location using the What3Words app. They assessed the situation, established that the engine could not be restarted and so they took the boat in tow to the safety of a mooring off Belchers Slipway. They then assisted the three casualties to the safety of shore.

The lifeboat was crewed by Helm, Harry Griffin, and crew volunteers, Jake Butt and James Searle.

The volunteers resumed their exercise at 9.00pm, having satisfied themselves that the vessel was secure and the occupants safe and well.
