At 12:36hrs, HM Coastguard tasked our D Class lifeboat, George Bearman II, to a kite surfer in difficulty off Orcombe Point.
The 999 call to H.M. Coastguard was made by the kitesurfer himself, who was carrying a mobile phone, when his equipment failed leaving him in the rough waters off Orcombe point. Thankfully, the casualty managed to self-recover to the beach but found himself cut off by the tide once ashore.
The Exmouth RNLI crew launched the D-class inshore lifeboat, George Bearman II, within six minutes of being paged and raced to the scene, navigating the rough seas and blustery winds on the way. The casualty was soon safely aboard the lifeboat and recovered back to the Exmouth RNLI lifeboat station, along with his damaged kit.
Following a hot shower, the casualty was transported back to his car by our friends and colleagues at Exmouth Coastguard Rescue Team.
The incident was concluded by 1pm, when the lifeboat was washed down and refuelled, ready for the next time the pager sounds.
