- In 1953, Exmouth celebrated the arrival of a new Lifeboat and its 150th Anniversary.
One of the first boats to be fitted with a diesel engine, making it capable of travelling 176 miles without refuelling.
Capable of rescuing 48 people (30 in rough seas)
On Christmas Day in 1956, Will Carder lost his life when swept overboard on the way to a rescue. Thankfully, the only member of the Exmouth Crew to perish at sea. There is a plaque in his memory at the Lifeboat Station.
