- You can probably see the Boarding Boat below you in the Marina. Sometimes, our main Shannon Lifeboat is moored just beyond here in the estuary. The Crew use the Boarding Boat to go to and from the Shannon. There have been times when boarding boats are used in rescues. In 1995, one of the Stuart Line boats ran aground near Maer Rocks. The water was too shallow for Lifeboat at the time, Louis Marchesi, to get close, so the boarding boat helped transfer passengers from the pleasure boat to the Lifeboat.
The Boarding Boat can be seen on exercise with the Exmouth Shannon and Inshore Lifeboats on Christmas Day when hundreds of Exmouth residents congregate to take a dip in the sea.
This D Class was in service from 2008-2018 in Stranraer before becoming a Boarding Boat in 2019. It came to Exmouth in 2023 from Weymouth
