Exmouth RNLI host Jurassic Coast Mini rally

On September 16, Exmouth RNLI volunteers played host at the finishing line of the 2012 Mouth2Mouth Mini run, organised by the Jurassic Coast Mini club. The club raised £1,200 for the charity that saves lives at sea, with RNLI volunteers raising £300 from a barbeque.

80 classic Minis took part, most parking in Foxholes car park. A kind Mini enthusiast in the Town Council issued free parking for those taking part in the event.

The club collected money in buckets along their route from Weymouth, which included: Portland, Lyme Regis, Seaton, Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton. Enthusiasts sold tickets for their raffle, which was drawn at the boathouse at 3pm. Jill Neal knitted 19 RNLI lifeboat crewmen especially for the event. They sold out in just a couple of hours!

Exmouth RNLI volunteers, including Coxswain Mechanic Tim Mock, Henry Mock, Charles Swales, Neil Hurlock and Caz Ashman served food and drink non-stop for over four hours. The demand for hot food at the finishing line was incredible, with a queue forming along the length of the slipway.

Mouth2Mouth organiser, Richard Darville said:

‘This was the sixth Mouth2Mouth Mini run in aid of RNLI and the second one actually finishing at the RNLI Lifeboat station. Every time we get increased numbers attending and funds raised. We had to share the car park with the power boats when we started off at Weymouth and heard on our return, that one of the powerboats was involved in an accident during a race and resulted in the fatality of the driver. The Weymouth lifeboat was obviously involved and it just goes to show what a worthy and wonderful cause we are raising the money for.’
