Exmouth RNLI search for missing Exeter man

Portland coastguard tasked inshore lifeboat, George Bearman at 10.50am on 12 February to search for a vulnerable man reported missing in the early hours of 11 February. The search was stood down after a sighting by a member of the public, a canoeist at 1pm today.

The three-man volunteer crew carried out a thorough shore-line search from Shelley Beach in Exmouth, up to Countess Wear in the city of Exeter. Helmsman Charles Swales describes their route;

‘We carried out the search as far as we could. When we ran out of water at the bridge at Countess Wear, we came back down with the tide, retracing our steps for a secondary search.’

Please refer all further enquiries to Devon and Cornwall Police press office.
