Brixham coastguard tasked the inshore lifeboat, George Bearman to the aid of two jet skiers aground on Pole Sands at 12.09pm this afternoon.

In heavy drizzle and poor visibility, three jet skiers had been travelling off Exmouth beach when one had become injured and extremely cold. A kite surfer in the proximity had dragged this first casualty ashore to a paramedic. The paramedic explained the circumstances to the coastguard and Exmouth RNLI volunteers were paged to the aid of the two other jet skiers.

Arriving on scene at 12.13pm, the charity’s volunteers issued safety advice to the two men, who declined further assistance. The inshore lifeboat returned to the boathouse and was ready for service at 12.39pm.

‘Local knowledge is great, but you need to know the tides. We advise jet skiers and kite surfers to carry safety equipment to alert the emergency services. Mobile phones don’t always work and it would be better to use a VHF radio and carry flares.’
