Exmouth RNLI volunteer crew were tasked at 8.40pm on Sunday 11th June, to a kite surfer who had become entangled in his ropes. Brixham Coastguard received two calls from concerned members of the public that had witnessed the man in difficulties.

The local man from Budleigh was relieved to be helped out by the inshore lifeboat crew and was returned safely to shore

It was the second time over the weekend that the crew launched the inshore lifeboat George Bearman. On Friday at 12.56 pm they were tasked to three people said to be cut off by the tide at Orcombe Point. Upon arrival it was discovered that although they couldn’t get back around the point to Exmouth, they could have made their way back to Sandy Bay and along the cliffs. Local coastguards assisted them to Sandy Bay and the lifeboat crew returned to base

Kevin Riley, Exmouth RNLI said: “It’s important that people look at the tide tables before setting off on a walk around the headland or consult the tide tables online.  If in doubt, ask the beach lifeguards for advice. There are tide tables are available at most boat chandlers, some local stores and also the lifeboat shop. The inshore lifeboat may have been needed on a real lifesaving task at the other end of the area and time is always of the essence when it comes to saving lives.”
